1.  Environment Centre Updates

  • Our library of environmental books and magazines is not being utilized, so please let us know if this is of interest to you or your organization. We are looking at scaling back this service and using the resources for other purposes.
  • We're open from 10am to 4pm daily, but we suggest you call by in case we're out at a meeting

2.  Environmental News

  • The 'Mining in National Parks' issue received top billing with the May-day march in Auckland attrracting over 40,000 people. The submissions deadline was extended to 26th May and an estimated 35,000 submissions were received.

3.  What's On

  • Sunday 30th May is Rotary Centennial Trust Public Planting Day at K Valley, starting at 10am. Use the farmgate entrance at the western end of Marshall Ave, near Barke's Corner. Wear sturdy footware. Contact Ian Wilson (021)592-668 for more information, or call Lydia at the Environment Centre.
  • Sunday 13th June is Coast Care Planting Day at Karewa Parade, from 9.30am - 12 noon. Look for the "Working Bee" sign and follow the access treack to the beach. All tools will be supplied, as well as a drink and muffin at the end. Bring sturdy shoes and warm clothing.
  • It's World Environment Day on Saturday 5th June, and Arbour Day is also celebrated on the same day (the 120th year it's been celebrated in NZ).
  • The movie "Garbage Warrier" is being screened on Monday 31st May at 8pm at Rialto Theatre. Tickets are available from Rialto for $8. Enquiries to Ron & Gillian 544-5360 or Ron & Maureen 548-1996.

4.  Sustainable Living Programme

  • Thanks for all your feedback about the Sustainable Living Programme. We've had further discussions with our key sponsors, which are the Tauranga City Council and Environment BOP, and decided to run monthly workshops, starting next month.
  • June's topic is Waste Reduction, featuring information about your household rubbish and practical ways to reduce your . There'll be information about recycling and composting.

Bus Tour of Bayfair & Te Maunga recycling facilities:  Saturday 12 June 10am-1pm

5.  Local Meetings at the Tauranga Environment Centre

  • Transition Town Tauranga meets monthly on the last Thursday of each month from 7-9pm. See the TransitionTauranga website for details.
  • Forest and Bird Protection Society Tauranga Branch meets monthly on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 7pm.
