What is the Hydrohub?

The Hydrohub is a mobile, renewable powered, water dispensing unit.  The Hydrohub is being built by a team of experts and community leaders in Tauranga. This project is all about providing drinking water at local events in an affordable and healthy manner. We want to reduce our impact on the environment by eliminating waste and using local drinking water sources sustainably.

Who's involved?

The Hydrohub development team is made up of experts and community leaders from around Tauranga. The key team is made up of representatives from:
Summerhays Education for Sustainability, Tauranga Environment Centre, Artica Pure Water, Paramount Stainless Steel Products, Prescott Trailers, The Solarbarn, Tauranga City Council (City Waters), plus individual contributions from Riki Nelson, Huey Rurehe.

Update Feb 2010

The Hydrohub is half way built  but is now unfortunately on hold until sufficient funding can be found to complete the project: Can you help ?
if so contact Karen Summerhays

How can I get my piece of Hydrohub?

Hydrohub is looking for sponsors for manufacturing and promotion of the project. There is also room for commercial advertising on the Hydrohub itself. There is more than enough room for everyone!

See our factsheet above for more information on sponsorship and advertising.

Together we can make it !

Could your business 'go with the flow' by providing support for this project?

Did You Know?

A small event in Tauranga ordered 3000 waterbottles.

Plastic water bottles should not be re-used for more than  a month because the bottle starts to degrade and hygiene is compromised.

New Zealand recyclers have to handle around 8000 tons of plastic water bottles a year.

Empty plastic bottles that are recycled are exported to make pillows, clothing, and carpets which eventually end up in landfills.

Plastic water bottles can take up to 1000 years to biodegrade in landfill
